OUR HISTORY
The Cherry Hill Community Coalition's story is rooted in decades of community leadership and collaboration. In 1993, a group of dedicated community members formed Cherry Hill 2000 to envision what Cherry Hill could look like in the new millennium. The group hosted several community forums that gathered residents’ ideas and aspirations, leading to the creation of a five-year plan—the first community-driven plan ever adopted by the Baltimore City Planning Department in 1996. Remarkably, 98% of the goals outlined in that plan were achieved.

By 2003, a new set of community forums was organized to update and refine Cherry Hill's priorities. One key theme emerged: the need for a unified community voice. In response, Cherry Hill Trust (formerly Cherry Hill 2000) and the Cherry Hill Development Corporation co-chaired an informal coalition to coordinate efforts and strengthen communication. This collaboration led to the Cherry Hill Master Plan, officially adopted by the Baltimore City Planning Commission in 2007.

Over time, the informal coalition evolved into the Cherry Hill Community Coalition (CHCC), a formal 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. While initially fiscally sponsored by the Cherry Hill Development Corporation, CHCC's official Board of Directors was seated in 2021, marking its transition into an independent community organization. The founding members, now serving as the Sustainability (Emeritus) Committee, continue to preserve the organization's history and legacy while guiding its future direction.

CHERRY HILL 2000 INITIATIVE
Cherry Hill 2000 was created in 1993 to bring together the community’s scattered stakeholders and imagine what Cherry Hill could look like by the year 2000. Through a series of community forums, residents helped shape a shared vision for the neighborhood, forming the foundation for long-term community planning.
ADOPTION OF FIRST COMMUNITY PLAN
The ideas gathered through Cherry Hill 2000 resulted in a five-year community plan, adopted by the Baltimore City Planning Department in 1996. This was the first community-driven plan ever approved by the Planning Commission, achieving an impressive 98% of its original goals.
EVOLUTION INTO CHERRY HILL MASTER PLAN
Beginning in 2003, new community forums were held to update priorities and strengthen communication across Cherry Hill. Cherry Hill Trust and the Cherry Hill Development Corporation co-chaired an informal coalition, leading to the development of the Cherry Hill Master Plan, which was formally adopted in 2007.
OFFICIAL 501(C)(3) INCORPORATION
As community needs expanded, the Coalition worked toward becoming a fully independent nonprofit with the Cherry Hill Development Corporation serving as fiscal sponsor. In 2021, the first official Board of Directors was seated, establishing the Cherry Hill Community Coalition as a stand-alone 501(c)(3).
LEGACY OF COLLABORATION WITH CHERRY HILL
DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION AND CHERRY HILL TRUST
The Coalition was built on years of partnership between Cherry Hill Trust and the Cherry Hill Development Corporation, who helped guide community planning and unify key stakeholders. Their early leadership now continues through the Sustainability Committee, which preserves institutional memory and ensures continuity in CHCC's mission.
